Are you 55 years old or older? Check out the Senior Discount List!

Programs and local resources worth knowing about if you are 55 or older in the Temecula Valley, including the Proposition 19 property tax benefit, reduced transit fares and the Mary Phillips Senior Center.
Senior Discounts List

If you are 55 or older in the Temecula Valley, the savings that actually add up are usually local or statewide programs rather than national chain discounts. Here are the ones worth knowing about, each checked against its official source.

California Proposition 19 lets a homeowner who is 55 or older transfer the taxable value of their current home to a replacement home, so the property tax bill does not reset to the new purchase price. Under Proposition 19 you can do this up to three times, and the replacement home can be anywhere in California.

If the replacement home is of equal or lesser value, the taxable value transfers as is. The State Board of Equalization treats a replacement as equal or lesser value if it costs no more than 100 percent of the original home’s sale price when bought before the sale, 105 percent when bought within one year after the sale, or 110 percent when bought within two years after the sale. If the replacement home costs more than that, the base year value still transfers, and only the excess above the threshold is added on.

Claims are filed with the county assessor. The rules are detailed, so confirm your own situation with the Riverside County Assessor or the State Board of Equalization before you commit to a move.

Riverside Transit Agency offers a discounted fare on all fixed-route service to riders age 60 and above. You can show a California driver’s license or state ID as proof of age, or buy an RTA Senior ID card for a 2 dollar fee. Discounted 30-day passes are also available for seniors, riders with disabilities and Medicare cardholders.

RTA serves Temecula, Murrieta, Menifee, Wildomar and Lake Elsinore, so this is a practical option if you would rather not drive to appointments or errands.

The Mary Phillips Senior Center at 41845 Sixth Street in Old Town Temecula is the main hub for senior services in the city. It is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and the phone number is 951-694-6464.

The center runs a daily nutrition program with lunch served on site or delivered to your home, transportation to the center, classes and activities, and it serves as a designated Cool Center during heat emergencies and a Warm Center during cold weather. Facility rentals and class registration are handled through the City of Temecula.

National chains, airlines, hotels and restaurants change their senior discount programs constantly, and franchise locations often set their own policy. Rather than keep a list here that goes stale, we point people to sources that are actively maintained.

AARP publishes a current member discount directory and is the most reliable single source. Beyond that, the honest answer is to ask at the counter. Many places still offer a senior rate but no longer advertise it, and the age threshold varies from 50 to 65 depending on the business.

If you find a good local senior discount in the Temecula Valley, tell us and we will add it.

A note on accuracy: programs, fares and eligibility ages change. Everything above was checked against the California State Board of Equalization, Riverside Transit Agency and the City of Temecula in August 2026. Confirm the details that apply to your own situation before you rely on them, and let us know if you spot something out of date.
